Siège d'une seigneurie attestée depuis 1389, la terre de Louvignies fut acquise en 1716 par Rodrigue de Péralta, gouverneur de Charleroi. Le château, flanqué d'une tour et entouré de fossés, fut alors aménagé, ensuite modernisé en 1767.
