CASADEAN connects Orthodox monasteries across the Balkans, celebrating Byzantine and post-Byzantine monastic traditions.
The Journey
CASADEAN (Cultural Association of South, Adriatic, Danube, East European Monasteries) celebrates Orthodox Christian monastic heritage in Southeast Europe.
The network includes monasteries in Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, and other Balkan countries - Byzantine and post-Byzantine foundations with frescoes, icons, manuscripts, and architectural heritage.
Sites include Meteora (Greece), Rila Monastery (Bulgaria), Studenica (Serbia), and painted monasteries of Bucovina (Romania). The route promotes religious tourism, cultural heritage preservation, and interfaith dialogue.
