The Journey

The European Route of Megalithic Culture explores Europe's prehistoric stone monuments built between roughly 5000 and 2000 BCE. These megaliths (large stones) include dolmens (chamber tombs), menhirs (standing stones), stone circles, and passage graves. The route spans diverse European landscapes from the British Isles to the Mediterranean, connecting sites like Stonehenge, Newgrange, Carnac, the dolmens of Antequera, and Scandinavian passage graves. Megalithic monuments reflect sophisticated astronomical knowledge, communal organization, and spiritual beliefs of prehistoric societies. The route promotes archaeological understanding and preserves these ancient sites as cultural heritage.
