The Journey

Impressionisms Routes explores the landscapes and sites that inspired Impressionist painters - Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, Sisley, Manet, Degas, and others who revolutionized art in the late 19th century. Routes connect Paris (where Impressionism emerged), Normandy (Monet's gardens at Giverny, coastal scenes), the Seine valley, Île-de-France, and Provence. Sites include locations painted by the artists, their homes and studios, and museums holding major Impressionist collections. The route explores the Impressionist focus on light, color, modern life, and direct observation of nature. Visitors can compare painted scenes with actual landscapes and understand the movement's radical innovation and eventual influence on modern art.
