The Journey
The Saint Francis Ways connect places associated with Saint Francis of Assisi (1181-1226), founder of the Franciscan Order and one of Christianity's most beloved saints.
Francis renounced wealth to live in poverty, preached to animals and nature, received the stigmata, and composed the Canticle of the Sun. His message of simplicity, peace, and love of creation resonates across religious boundaries.
Routes connect Assisi (his birthplace and spiritual center), La Verna (where he received the stigmata), Gubbio, Rome, and other Franciscan sites in Italy and beyond. Sites include Franciscan basilicas, hermitages, shrines, and natural landscapes associated with Francis's spirituality.
