The Journey

The Via Francigena is one of Europe's great pilgrimage routes, a spiritual and cultural journey that has shaped the continent for over a millennium. Originating in Canterbury, England, this ancient path winds through France, Switzerland, and Italy, culminating in Rome at the tomb of Saint Peter. Unlike the more famous Camino de Santiago, the Via Francigena offers a quieter, more contemplative experience. The route passes through landscapes of extraordinary beauty: the rolling hills of Tuscany, the soaring Alps, the vineyards of Burgundy. Each region brings its own architectural and culinary traditions, yet all are united by the common thread of pilgrimage. Medieval travelers walked this route seeking both spiritual transformation and cultural exchange. Today's pilgrims follow in their footsteps, discovering not only the sacred sites and ancient churches that dot the path, but also the deep continuity of European culture and faith. The Via Francigena is more than a walk—it is a journey through memory, landscape, and meaning.
